Next HPM Council Meeting to be Held September 28, 2006 in Vancouver, BC
Vancouver, BC – September 8, 2006 – 2006 – The second meeting of the Council for High Performance Medicine will be held on September 28, 2006 from 6:00 – 8:00pm at the offices of Microsoft Canada (B.C. Office) on 1111 West Georgia Street in Vancouver, B.C. (MPR Room, 11th Floor). Physicians and electronic medical records (EMR) users and thought-leaders are welcome.
EMR users or potential users in B.C. are invited to join Wolf Medical Systems, Microsoft, and HP at the meeting and share opinions on the question: “How does EMR increase the efficiency of the practice of medicine?” Several physicians are scheduled to speak on their experiences with EMR and the barriers to EMR adoption in B.C. We will also introduce the steering committee of the HPM Council at this meeting.
The first meeting of the HPM Council, held June 22,was a success, with over 30 physicians and other industry members attending the meeting at the Microsoft BC office in downtown Vancouver. A number of physicians spoke on the topics ranging from "why EMR" to "what are the obstacles or challenges facing EMR adoption."
The primary mission of the Council for High Performance Medicine Council is to highlight the difference EMR technology can make in improving patient care. “More than 90 percent of family physicians in British Columbia are using paper charts, despite the benefits of adopting electronic medical records to both the practice of the medicine and the delivery of high quality patient care,” said Brendan Byrne, president and founder, Wolf Medical Systems. “With its proposed technology funding, the Government stepping forward to help B.C. doctors transform their practices and patient care; now its time for extol the benefits from the physicians’ perspective and encourage adoption.”
The objective of the Council for High Performance Medicine is to highlight the difference technology can make to improving patient care in B.C. It is designed to create an interactive forum for B.C. physicians to share their EMR experiences; the goal is to become a conduit for constructive and focused physician input to positively influence the successful adoption of EMR in B.C.
