Wolf Medical Systems Achieves Major Milestone Towards Being Finalized as an Approved EMR Vendor in British Columbia
Wolf now entering into contract negotiations with the province of BC
For Immediate Release
Vancouver, BC – July 13, 2007 – Wolf Medical Systems, a leading national provider of electronic medical records (EMR) software for physician offices and medical clinics across Canada, today announced that Wolf has achieved a major milestone on the path to certification as an approved EMR vendor in BC.
With the evaluation process now complete, Wolf has been identified as a successful EMR proponent. Wolf will now work with the provincial government to successfully negotiate a contract. After that, Wolf will commence the qualification process to be finalized as a PITO-approved EMR. Once approved, BC physicians and allied healthcare professionals using Wolf could be eligible for coverage of up to 70% of their EMR costs through PITO.
“We’ve been developing BC-based EMR solutions since 1992; today over 200 clinics in BC – more than 50% of those using EMR in the province – use Wolf. Our extensive BC experience and rich BC-specific feature set in are key differentiators for Wolf in this market. We look forward to sharing our EMR software, best practices and experience with a much wider group of BC clinics now that the government has removed the financial barriers to EMR once faced by BC physicians,” commented Dr. Brendan Byrne, Wolf president and founder.
He added, “Wolf is thrilled to have achieved this major milestone and look forward to continuing to work with PITO, the BCMA, and BC’s physicians and allied healthcare professionals to further their EMR goals,”
According to the BCMA President's Letter on July 11th, the official list of approved vendors will be announced in August upon contract finalization. They will also send out further information regarding instructions for the pre-purchase of hardware and the decision on retroactivity for existing EMR users.
Wolf looks forward with working with even more of BC’s doctors as more physicians implement electronic medical records (EMRs) into their practices.
From the BCMA President’s Letter
The agreement negotiated in 2006 included funding for physician information technology support. The Physician Information Technology Office (PITO) was created to assist physicians in implementing electronic medical records (EMRs) into their practices. The agreement provides nearly $108 million for the purchase of hardware and software specifically for implementation of EMRs.
The evaluation process for the EMR request for proposals is now complete and the successful proponents have been identified. Each vendor will now proceed into a short period of up to 30 days to successfully negotiate a contract and then commence the qualification process in order to be finalized as a PITO-approved EMR. The list of vendors will be announced in August upon contract finalization.
