| The technology behind your EMR system is a critical consideration when evaluating EMR solutions. An EMR system that uses the right technology for your clinic will mean the difference between a reliable, accessible, and secure system that physicians, staff and other allied healthcare professionals will love to use vs. one that you outgrow or simply don’t use to its fullest potential.
Here are some of the aspects of EMR technology that you should consider and some information about Wolf’s technology:
Architecture
The architecture of your electronic medical record (EMR) system is an important consideration in determining its long-term suitability for your practice. For example, the architecture of the solution will dictate how effectively you can address the needs of your particular medical practice. For example, consider the following:
- Is your clinic going to grow or change over time?
- What kind of network and connectivity constraints do you operate within?
- Are you part of a group of clinics? Could you join a network of physicians in the future?
- Do you need to interface with external systems to receive electronic laboratory results, for example?
- Do you have the skills to manage your own systems or are you more comfortable relying upon others to take care of this?
As with planning an optimal layout for your medical practice or your home, the answers to these types of questions will help determine the architectural requirements of your EMR solution.

Scalability
Wolf Medical Suite is designed to be flexible, making it both suitable and affordable for small and large practices. Wolf Medical Suite applications allow clinics to start small and grow as their needs change - without having to change systems. Wolf Medical Suite's scalable design, built on Microsoft’s industry-standard, nonproprietary technology platform and scalable MS SQL Server database, supports both the single-doctor clinic and the large multi-clinic enterprises.

Accessibility
All Wolf applications are available as on premise (client/server) or ASP installations. The on premise software runs on an Ethernet network, supporting Microsoft Windows 2003 Terminal Server or Citrix MetaFrame utilizing TCP/IP or IPX protocols for wide area networks. All applications can also be implemented as ASP (Application Service Provider) applications, meaning users access the applications via an Internet VPN (Virtual Private Network), eliminating the need to implement or maintain local application and database servers.
Wolf applications can also be run over wireless networks, giving physicians the freedom to use laptop computers and Tablet PCs for maximum mobility both within and outside the clinic.

Microsoft Technology Platform
Microsoft-based technologies and applications have always played a key role in both our daily development activities and our long term technology strategy. In the summer of 2006 Wolf was the first EMR vendor in Canada to announce our support for Microsoft Office 2007 (click here to read more); by integrating with Microsoft Office 2007 we will continue to advance the usability of our products, helping physicians practice more efficiently, effectively and enjoyably by significantly improving collaboration, content management, productivity and medical practice management. Microsoft-based technologies and applications are foundational to our belief in delivering EMR solutions that work the way doctors really work. As a Gold Certified Partner (click here to read more), our EMR solutions streamline the way medical information is created, collected, accessed, and shared with patients and other parties, increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of medical practices and significantly improving the overall level of patient care.

Interfaces
Interfacing securely with external information sources is an important aspect of a complete patient record. Wolf Medical Systems recognizes the importance of interconnectivity and offers a wide variety of electronic data interchange import/export features. Wolf Medical Suite features interfaces to over 20 different laboratories in BC, Alberta, NWT, Ontario and Newfoundland. Wolf also interfaces with provincial EDT services, electronic medical summary brokers and other practice management systems. Wolf Medical Suite supports HL7, XML, CDA, and other provincial standards, allowing the transfer of data into and out of the Wolf Medical Suite. |
